Hit by a Farm, as you might imagine, is one woman's story of owning and running a farm in the midwest.

Catherine Friend's wife, Melissa(in case you're wondering, no, I don't secretly have a wife named Catherine. I've also never spent much time in the midwest), had dreams of owning a farm. Catherine, a bookworm and not all that outdoorsy, went along because she loved Melissa. At first, Catherine would've rather been writing her latest children's book, or at a writing conference with friends. But Melissa was very excited, so Catherine went along for some of the training that they needed to do before they could start a farm.

This book was charming, heartwarming, and very funny. Catherine Friend had me laughing uproariously at some of the stuff in the book, like when she described choosing rams for the farm, she said they used scientific methods like who had the cutest face, and who Melissa could catch.

There were, however, some sad moments, like when Catherine got attached to a playful lamb that was scheduled to be slaughtered for meat. He'd come up to her, she'd tap him on the head, which would be followed by him backing away, and repeat. There was also the time Catherine and Melissa's rooster, Serge, died. They had fallen in  love with Serge, and were devastated when he died.
