Steelflower, by Washington State sci-fi/fantasy novelist, is about Kaia Steelflower, who is famous for being a mercenary, assassin, and thief. Despite being kicked out of her homeland for having no magic, Kaia's done well for herself in he adopted homeland. That is, until she picks the wrong pocket and ends with a barbarian "pet" -Kaia's words, not mine- and they end up traveling together after Kaia saves the man she steals from and then saves, which complicates her life and annoys Kaia to no end. Further complicating her life is a princeling from her homeland who insists on traveling with them because he thinks he's Kaia's mate, and mates almost always travel together in their homeland.
Steelflower was interesting. I loved the interactions between Kaia and the two men, even if I thought she was a bit more short than she needed to be at times.
