Body of Missing Fire Recruit Rodney Goggins Jr. Discovered in Liberty Reservoir

The body was discovered by boaters.

The body of Rodney Goggins, Jr., 20, a Baltimore City fire recruit, was discovered by boaters Sunday afternoon in the Liberty Reservoir in Eldersburg, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.

He was reported missing by family members on May 30.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, Baltimore City watershed rangers patrolling the Liberty Reservoir received an alert by boaters who discovered a floating body south of the Liberty Road Bridge, according to a Carroll County Sheriff’s Department press release.

Rangers located the partially decomposed body in a remote area of the reservoir and alerted sheriff’s deputies and rescue dive teams from the Gamber Volunteer Fire Company.

The body was recovered and later identified by detectives as the missing fire recruit.

Goggins had been since late May after his family reported him missing and his vehicle was discovered by Baltimore County police along the shoulder on Liberty Road adjacent to the reservoir. 

The on June 6 after almost a week of no significant findings. 

Sheriff’s investigators said they did not locate any obvious signs of trauma on Goggin’s body, which has been transported to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
