Man Sentenced for Abusing Dogs; Ran Fake Animal Rescue in Parkville

Anthony Geer, 30, was found guilty on three counts of animal cruelty.

A man pretending to run an animal rescue program in Parkville was sentenced this week in an animal abuse case after a judge said the man kept 23 dogs in "horrible" conditions.

Anthony Geer, 30, of Cambridge, was found guilty on three of 23 counts of animal cruelty based upon the discovery of 23 dogs being kept in seven cages, according to Baltimore County assistant state's attorney Adam Lippe.

Geer was charged after the dogs were discovered in January.

"He was sentenced to 90 days, with all suspended except for three consecutive weekends in January," Lippe said in a phone interview Thursday. "He'll also serve one year of supervised probation."

While pretending to run a dog rescue operation, Geer was actually selling dogs out of a Quentin Avenue location in Parkville, according to Lippe.

Geer was operating a center he called Baltimore Animal Rescue Network in the 8600 block of Quentin Avenue, according to a Patch story from earlier this year.

"He was not licensed to sell dogs from that location, and the judge said he was running a puppy mill, keeping the dogs in inhumane conditions," the attorney said.

All of the dogs involved were forfeited to the Baltimore County Animal Shelter, Lippe said.
