Crime: Arrest Made in Linwood Avenue Burglary

Your weekly wrap-up of crime in the Parkville-Carney area, compiled from police reports at Parkville Precinct 8.

Parkville

Linwood Avenue, 2900 block. At 3:30 a.m. on April 18. A television and DVD player were stolen from a home. One of the victims recognized the burglars and was able to identify them to police. Police later arrested Peter Joseph Buchanan and Michael Joseph Schafer and charged both men with first-degree burglary.

Putty Hill Avenue, 2600 block. Between 2 p.m. April 18 and 6 a.m. April 19. Burglars entered the construction site at Parkville High School and stole a tool box, extension cord, cables, several drills, drill bits, saws and batteries along with copper pipe.

Willoughby Road, 3000 block. Between 10 p.m. April 19 and 7 a.m. April 20. A laptop computer was stolen from a home. The burglar entered the home through an open window.

Harris Avenue and Kings Ridge Road. On April 20. A man was walking in the vicinity when he was approached by a juvenile who asked for a cigarette and began following the victim. After a short time, the juvenile demanded money from the victim and displayed a handgun stashed in his waistband. Police arrested the juvenile and charged him with robbery, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault.

Carney

Waltham Woods Road, 9000 block. At 12:02 a.m. April 15. A man was assaulted and an apartment destroyed during a burglary. Melanie Nyasha Sawyer, of Townhill Road, was arrested and charged with third degree burglary, assault and destruction of property after she entered the apartment without permission, assaulted a man inside and destroyed two coffee tables, a bookshelf, a lamp and a VCR. When police responded to the scene, Sawyer assaulted two officers before being arrested. A later investigation revealed that Sawyer had taken an over the counter cough and cold medication which, when taken in high doses, causes hallucinations, euphoria and hyperactive behavior.

Superior Avenue, 2700 block. Between 1:57 and 2:01 a.m. April 19. A man was assaulted inside his home. A burglar entered the home through an unlocked back door and attacked the victim with a glass bowl which broke over the victim's head. No property was stolen, and officers saw no visible injuries on the victim.

Skylark Court, unit block. Between 9:20 a.m. and 5 p.m. April 21. A television, a laptop computer, DVD's, a DVD player, an iPod docking station and tanning lotions & creams were stolen from an apartment. The victim came home from work to find the front door to the apartment damaged.
