Crime: Elmwood Man Arrested, Charged with Grand Theft Auto

Police have arrested an Elmwood man and charged him with grand theft auto and fourth-degree burglary.

On Monday at 1:26 p.m. Paul Carter Moran, 37, of Elmwood Road allegedly entered the lot of Alban Tractor in the 8500 block of Pulaski Highway and attempted to steal a loaded Sterling tractor-trailer, valued at approximately $132,000, police said.

Before exiting the lot, Moran was spotted by an employee, police said. He exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, police said. Employees pursued the suspect until police arrived and arrested him.

Moran is currently out on $50,000 bond and will stand trial for the charges related to the theft of the tractor-trailer at the district courthouse in Essex on Sept. 14 at 8:30 a.m.

At the time of the incident, Moran was out on $25,000 bond after he was arrested and charged with three counts of auto theft in May. He is scheduled to appear at an Aug. 3 hearing at 8:30 a.m. at the district courthouse in Essex on those charges.

In addition, Moran was charged with two counts of identity theft early in May, and a court date for those charges has been set for later this month.
