Drinking and Driving Often a Lethal Mix on Super Bowl Sunday

Baltimore County police will have increased patrols to ensure people are being safe on game day.

The Super Bowl is known as one of the biggest party days of the year, and the Baltimore County Police Department wants to ensure that everyone has fun, but remains safe.

The police department will have extra officers patrolling throughout the county to make sure anyone driving under the influence will be stopped, ticketed and possibly arrested.

The department is also offering some suggestions that will make for a safe and fun Super Bowl Sunday.

  • Before you put together your liquor store list, plan out your menu. Fill your tables with plenty of food to keep everyone eating more and drinking less.
  • Have plenty of non-alcoholic beverages on hand in the refrigerator and in ice coolers. Iced tea, soda, juice drinks and water are good choices for those who are designated drivers.
  • Don’t be afraid to curtail a guest’s alcohol intake. As the saying goes, “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk.”
  • When you greet your friends, ask for their car keys. Should someone have too much to drink, you’ll be able to stop them from getting behind the wheel.
  • Call a cab if they insist on leaving, or ask them to stay the night and offer a great breakfast the next morning.
