A drug-deal-turned-robbery resulted in the shooting death of an Owings Mills man at Taylor Park Apartments in the Overlea area June 12.
Police have arrested 21-year-old Linwood Tymais Smith and 24-year-old DeAngelo Devonne Johnson and charged them with armed robbery and first-degree murder in last week's slaying of Miguiel Anthony Bailey.
A statement of charges released by the police department Thursday afternoon reveals that Bailey and a friend, unnamed in the report, met with Smith and Johnson to transact a deal for a quarter-pound of marijuana.
The unnamed friend met Johnson two days prior to the June 12 killing at a Shell gas station in the 7500 block of Belair Road to discuss the sale of a quarter-pound of marijuana for a price of $3,000, according to the charging document.
Bailey was then contacted in order to secure the marijuana for sale.
On the evening of June 12, the unnamed friend and Bailey went to meet Johnson at Taylor Park Apartments in Bailey's Chevrolet Imapala to transact the sale, the document says.
When they arrived they found Johnson and another man, later identified as Smith, waiting for them outside one of the apartment buildings. Smith got into the vehicle's passenger seat and Johnson got into the back seat with Bailey, who was stretching a previously injured leg, the report says.
Bailey showed Johnson the marijuana and Smith pulled out a handgun, pointing it at the unnamed driver and announcing a robbery. A struggle ensued and during which several shots were fired, the charging document states.
Smith was shot in the left cheek, Johnson was shot in the nose and Bailey was fatally shot four times, the report says.
Investigators believe that Johnson and Smith had planned a "fictitious drug deal" with the purpose of robbing Bailey and the unnamed driver of the vehicle.
During an interview with police, Smith said that Johnson had contacted him to say he had set up the drug deal and told him "they would rob the guys and take the marijuana."
