Elmwood Crime: Two Homes Burglarized, Computer Stolen

Police remain uncertain whether or not two burglaries in the Elmwood neighborhood are related—the information on those burglaries is listed below.

Capt. Michael Balog at White March Precinct is asking that anyone with information about the burglaries or suspicious vehicles or people in the neighborhood contact police.

"If they see a suspicious vehicle or person, they should call 911 so we can get down there right away," Balog said.

Dale Avenue, 700 block. At 12:45 a.m. Aug. 17. A Hewlett-Packard laptop and Nightmare Before Christmas tote bag, valued at a total of $599, were stolen from a home. A burglar tore open a screen in order to open a window while the homeowner was inside, stole the computer and left through the kitchen door.

Meadow Road, 400 block. At 12:55 p.m. Aug. 16. A homeowner heard the gate in her backyard open and went to investigate. She found a man trying to open the back door to get home and another man standing by the back gate. The victim held the door to prevent the men from getting inside and her dog bit the burglar nearest the door several times on the legs and buttocks.

Both men then ran to an older model Ford sedan where a third man was waiting and drove off.
