Joppa Road Reopened Following Gas Line Break

The east-west thoroughfare in Carney was closed Wednesday afternoon after a gas line break.

A gas line break in the Carney area is not expected to affect rush hour traffic, according to BGE officials.

Joppa Road was closed in both directions between Harford and Old Harford Roads Wednesday afternoon while crews worked to repair a damaged gas line near the intersection of Old Harford and Joppa Roads, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

Rachael Lighty, a spokeswoman for BGE, said that a contractor struck a half-inch gas line around 2 p.m. Repair and maintenance crews from the utilities company were on the scene shortly afterwards, she said, and repairs on the line were completed by 4:30 p.m.

Traffic along Joppa Road should be flowing normally in time for the Wednesday afternoon rush, Lighty said.

Only one residential customer was affected by an outage, Lighty said. That customer should be in service again "within the next couple of hours."
