Multi-Car Accidents Injure Two, Stall Harford Road

A man and woman were transported to the hospital in the first of two Parkville accidents.

Two accidents on Harford Road in Parkville late Friday afternoon briefly brought traffic to a standstill.

The first, and apparently more serious, of the two accidents sent two people to area hospitals and resulted in two overturned vehicles plus damage to a professional building.  The second accident involving three vehicles resulted in minor injuries to one person.

In the first accident, a woman driving a Toyota RAV4 rear-ended a vehicle on Harford Road, then continued on Harford Road crossing the center line striking still another vehicle, a Chevrolet, causing it to overturn. The Toyota then struck a chiropractic center and also overturned, according to Louise Rogers, a spokeswoman for Baltimore County police.

The male driver of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital. The woman driving the Toyota was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Police had not released the identities or conditions of those involved in the crash as of Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the multi-vehicle collision at about 2:30 p.m., in the vicinity of the 9400 block of Harford Road near Second Avenue in Parkville, and an investigation is ongoing.

After first hitting one vehicle, the Toyota neared the 9400 block of Harford Road and struck a Chevrolet HHR, a crossover wagon, causing it to overturn. The Toyota then struck the Carney Chiropractic Center at 9403 Harford Road, damaging the building and landscaping. The Toyota then overturned and began leaking gasoline.

Five police units, multiple fire engines and ambulances responded to the scene.

About an hour after the first incident, another accident occurred in the 9200 block of Harford Road near Carney Hitch, according to Rogers.

Rogers said that a Mitsubishi Galant, a Ford pick-up and a Ford Escape collided at low speeds as the drivers of the vehicles attempted to turn.

The driver of the Ford Escape suffered minor injuries and was transported to Franklin Square Hospital Center.

The combined accidents brought a total of seven police units from the Parkville Precinct to a two-block stretch of Harford Road and snarled traffic for a time.
