Enterprising burglars broke into two Nottingham businesses in the same evening, making off with more than $13,000 in cash.
The two businesses, and share a landing and a stairwell leading to the rear doors.
Between 1 and 4 a.m. Jan. 25, burglars broke into China Chef and stole cash from a register. During the burglary, they cut phone lines to the building containing the businesses and destroyed a security camera posted near the cash register, according to a police report.
The burglars then climbed on top of stacked soda crates taken from the Chinese restaurant to access an unused door to the liquor store that is located above ground level and has no stairwell, the report said. They then pried the door open, punched through the drywall behind it and crawled over a shelf to get inside the store.
A cash box inside the business, a safe and an ATM were each broken into and had cash stolen from them. The video surveillance system, siren and camera inside the business were stolen or destroyed during the burglary.
