Parkville/Carney Crime: Cell Phone Sale Leads to Armed Robbery Attempt

Waltham Woods Road, 8900 block. Betweek 10:25 and 10:30 p.m. Mar 14. A man met with a group of three men on the parking lot of North Plaza shopping center to purchase a cell phone from them.

After the victim exchanged cash for the cell phone, one of the men pulled a black handgun and demanded the phone back.

Rather than return the phone the victim, who was in his vehicle at the drive, drove away.

One of the suspects in the robbery attempt is described as a black male between 20 and 25 years old, approximately 5'6" and 150 pounds. The other two suspects are described as Indian males between 20 and 25 years old, one with a beard.

The suspects arrived at North Plaza in a 2- door, silver-colored Infiniti 625, according to a police report.

Officer Mark Dorsey said that robberies and attempted robberies connected to cell phone sales haven't happened often in the precinct, but that people should be careful when arranging to meet strangers to make purchases.

"They met in a good place, but night time probably isn't a great time to meet with a stranger," Dorsey said.
