Parkville Man Arrested, Charged In Harford Road Shoe Robbery

A Parkville man was arrested and charged in the wake of an armed robbery on Harford Road Wednesday afternoon.

James Sloan Calwell, 18, was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, theft, possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute and possession of paraphernalia.

A booking photo of Calwell was not available as a result of an ongoing investigation by Baltimore County Police.

He is being held on $250,000 bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Parkville High School student was walking home from school. When he left the Royal Farms store in the 8200 block of Harford Road, the victim noticed he was being followed, according to a police report.

When the victim reached the 7900 block of Harford Road, a man asked him if he smoked marijuana. The victim replied he did not, and the man displayed what the victim thought to be a handgun and ordered the victim into an alleyway, according to a police report.

The victim was pressed against a wall and ordered to remove his shoes, a pair of green Nike Foamposites, the report says.

Police officers, K9 and a helicopter responded to look for the suspects, but were unable to find them.

Meanwhile, police said the victim was able to identify the man who robbed him as a fellow Parkville High School student, James Calwell, who is currently suspended.

Police went to Calwell's home in the 8600 block of David Avenue to question him about the robbery. Police located Calwell at the home and placed him under arrest, according to a police report. Calwell consented to have his bedroom at the home searched, the report says.

Calwell said the shoes taken in the robbery were in his bedroom, and officers also found another pair of shoes that matched the description of those taken in a Tuesday night robbery in Nottingham, the report says.

Calwell also told officers he had used a BB gun to commit the Wednesday afternoon robbery and that he had hidden it in Double Rock Park, the report says. Calwell later led them to the BB gun, the report says.

Police also allegedly found a black and white bong, 21 individually-packaged baggies containing "green and brown vegetable matter," a digital scale, 19 empty glassine baggies, rolling papers and a grinder in Calwell's bedroom.

Because they found the pair of shoes that matched the description of those stolen in the Tuesday evening robbery, police also charged Calwell with robbery, first- and second-degree assault and theft.

He faces an additional $250,000 bond on those charges.

The second suspect, who was following the student when he left the convenience store, has not yet been arrested.
