Parkville Man Sentenced for Sex Crime

Jeremy Guzewicz, 28, of Parkville was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually exploiting a child to produce child pornography

A Parkville man was sentenced in federal court to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty today to sexually exploiting a child to produce child pornography.

Jeremy Guzewicz, 28, was sentenced to prison and lifetime supervision upon his release by U.S District Court Judge Marvin J. Garbis, according to a press release issued by the Department of Justice earlier this afternoon.

Guzewicz will have to register as a sex offender in the places where he resides, is an employee, and is a student, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

During the trial it was revealed that Guzewicz had been portraying himself as an older man with stepchildren on a social networking Web site geared to teenagers beginning in July 2006. Guzewicz is single and has no children, prosecutors said.

Guzewicz used the website to introduce himself to a 12-year-old girl from Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, he began asking the girl for sexually explicit pictures. He also called the victim many times by phone, and sent a sexually explicit photo to her, which he said was of himself.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
