UPDATE: Rosedale Man Surrenders to Police In Hillendale Man's Death

Baltimore County police allege Lennell Earl Ellis is responsible for the death of a Hillendale man in Essex.

UPDATED (3:36 p.m.) — Lennell Earl Ellis, a Rosedale man wanted by police for first-degree murder, turned himself in at police headquarters Thursday afternoon.

Police were looking for the Rosedale man in connection with the death of a Hillendale man in Essex over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death of 21-year-old Daryl Augustus II, of the 6500 block of Collinsdale Road in Hillendale, a homicide on Tuesday. Police have obtained a warrant for 32-year-old Lennell Earl Ellis in connection with the murder, police said in a statement.

Around 6:50 a.m. on May 26, police and fire units responded to a truck on fire on Mitchell Road near Bay Avenue in Essex. There they discovered a 2005 Dodge Ram truck ablaze and after the fire was extinguished they found a man's body inside, according to police.

The victim, later identified as Augustus, was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and to learn the cause and manner of death, police said. In a statement, police said that the medical examiner listed Augustus' cause of death as laceration of the femoral artery.

According to police, Augustus was reported missing around 4:20 p.m. on May 26 after he didn't return to his home on the night of May 25. Police reports said that the had been operating a company work truck, which was also missing.

In reconstructing Augustus' movements, detectives determined that he had been visiting a woman in the unit block of Dunhaven Place in Nottingham during the morning of May 26.

Ellis, who had been previously romantically involved with the woman, came to the apartment and discovered Augustus there, police said.

Detectives believe that Augustus was killed in the apartment and that his body and vehicle were then transported to the Mitchell Road area, according to officials.
