Police Say Woman Gunned Down in Front of Hillendale Home

Woman was putting a 3-year-old into a car, police say.

Update 11:22 a.m.

Police say Victoria Vernetta Glover, 28, was shot to death in front of her home in the 1300 block of Dalton Road about 8:45 a.m. She was found lying on the sidewalk, police said.

She was shot while loading a 3-year-old boy into her car, said Cpl. John Wachter. Neighbors said the boy was her son. He was unharmed, according to police.

Police said they are looking for a man who left the scene in a car that was unidentified.

Police say Glover suffered at least one gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This is unheard of today," said Rachel Darrough, who has lived in the Hillendale neighborhood for 20 years. "I am very upset. I walk [to work] and come out of my front door every day. This is crazy."

Barbara McAllister, president of the Hillendale Improvement Association, described her neighborhood as a quiet one.

"We never have too many problems .... Just the stuff that happens anywhere. I've been here 18 years."

Though she didn't know the victim personally, McAllister said she'd talked to the woman at neighborhood events.

"It's really, really sad this happened so close to home," she said. "I wish there was something I could say or do."

Police were interviewing neighbors and asked anyone with information to call 410 307-2020.
