Construction on Putty Hill, Harford Road to Begin Monday

Department of Public Works says the job should take about six months.

Much-needed improvements to the failing intersection of Putty Hill Avenue and Harford Road are expected to begin on June 20, according to officials with the Baltimore County Department of Public Works.

In a press release, county officials said that the project, expected to cost nearly $1 million, will widen Putty Hill Avenue to accommodate new lanes and construct 1,300 feet of new sidewalks, curbs, gutters and storm drain inlets.

"The Putty Hill-Harford Road job will take six months, though we expect the contractor will be a bit faster.  The contract calls for 130 working days," Public Works spokesman David Fidler said in an email to Patch.

Crews will work between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. during weekdays only, and the road will be kept open during construction.

During the week, a barrier will be placed at the rear of St. Ursula's Church parking lot, which connects to a cul-de-sac on nearby Wilson Avenue to inhibit people from using the cut-through as a detour.

The decision to block the cut-through was made based on resident concerns about increased traffic on Wilson Avenue, Fidler explained.

On the weekends, the barrier will be removed to allow St. Ursula's parishoners to make use of the cut-through.
