Fiastro, a Towson University graduate, is fluent in Spanish and has been a manager at Aldo’s Ristorante Italiano in Baltimore's Little Italy since 2001. He was a Republican nominee for the Maryland House of Delegates in 2010 and currently serves as  president of the Friends of the Loch Raven Library.

In a press release, Marks, a Republican, said: “I am very happy to appoint John Fiastro to the Baltimore County Human Relations Commission; I believe his business background will be very useful on this panel, as well as his fluency in Spanish and understanding of the Latino culture. Like many communities in Maryland, Baltimore County is experiencing an influx of residents for whom English is not an original language.”
