In the Netflix series House of Cards, the smarmy smiles, empty promises and glad-handing are meant strictly for entertainment purposes.

But parts of Maryland are benefiting handsomely from Hollywood's fake political largesse.

The Emmy Award-nominated show filmed in Bel Air this week, and town officials said they hope this is not the last time a film production visits.

On Monday and Tuesday, the show was filming on location at the Liriodendron Mansion and elsewhere in town, Bel Air Director of Economic Development Trish Heidenreich told ExploreHarford.com.

Eileen Frado, senior business development associate with the Harford County Office of Economic Development, told ExploreHarford.com that more filming is expected to take place in nearby Edgewood next week.

"They had expressed to me, and I have certainly seen it myself, where they are filming as much as they can in Harford County close to their set in Joppa," Frado said, according to the ExploreHarford.com piece.

Heidenreich said a film festival put on by the town in recent years served as a catalyst to bring House of Cards casting calls to town and later establishing the town as a filming location.

“We’re hoping this is just the beginning of bringing productions to town," Hedenreich said.

"These people eat in our restaurants and shop [in our shops]," Heidenreich said.

Last summer the show filmed in Havre de Grace.

The library used by members of the Baltimore County Council in Towson could appear in a future episode.
