Marks Announces Formation of Fifth District Community Advisory Council

Councilman creates forum for community members to speak to him, in hopes of fostering better communication throughout his district.

Fifth District Councilman David Marks announced the formation of the Fifth District Community Advisory Council earlier today.

The council, which will meet 3 times each year, will be comprised of community organization members from neighborhoods within Marks' council district.

"I campaigned on this," Marks said in a phone interview with Patch on Wednesday afternoon.  "I want to keep in touch with the community leaders, especially in regards to legislation I should be advancing."

The Community Advisory Council meetings will take place different locations throughout the district.

"I'm hoping to have one meeting in Towson, one meeting in Loch Raven-Parkville, and one meeting in Perry Hall," Marks said.  "[Fifth District] is a collection of neighborhoods … Towson is very different from Perry Hall or Parkville; but I think they have a lot of the same issues.  This is a way for community leaders to meet one another, and for me to listen to all viewpoints."

According to the councilman, the first meeting of the Fifth District Community Advisory Council will tentatively take place "around the end of January."

"I've been trying, since I was elected, to reach out," Marks said.  "This is just one more way for me to do that."

Marks is asking any community organization that wants to participate to send information to his district office.  Please send the name, address, and email address of the appropriate representative to jgrim@baltimorecountymd.gov.  For more information, call (410) 887-3384.
