Pitch Your Business Idea in Maryland Contest

Winning entrepreneurs will receive a MacBook Air or an iPad.

Gov. Martin O'Malley has taken to Pinterest, the image-friendly social media site, to "highlight Maryland entrepreneurs and small business owners" throughout the state, including in Baltimore County.

Nominations can be pitched with 10 images on the governor's Pinterest page. Here is the Maryland Pinterest Business Pitch Contest board.

“In Maryland, we have a rich history of fostering entrepreneurship. From our many incubators to our diverse centers and institutions of higher learning to our strategic tax credits, we encourage entrepreneurship at every level,” O’Malley said in a release. “Whether you’ve been in business for years or are just getting started, Maryland is the ideal place to do business and we encourage everyone to take advantage of this new contest.”

Other details of the contest from the release:

Submissions will be showcased on Governor O’Malley’s website. Boards and pins will be available for public comment. Following the public comment period, a panel of business experts will choose winners in two different categories: “Student Entrepreneurs” and “Boot Strappers.” First place winners will receive a MacBook Air and runner ups will receive an iPad courtesy contest partner the Baltimore Angels.

Gov. Martin O'Malley spoke at the Maryland Small Business Week Awards Luncheon on Friday, April 13, 2012. I am the Chairman for the Maryland Small Business Week Awards Program which is responsible for putting on this event.. [Visit http://www.sbwawards.org for more information.] Although I don't agree with Gov. Martin O'Malley's tax policies, Maryland has and is doing very well compared to the rest of the nation. If you have an idea for a business, seek help. There are a lot of free resources out there that can help make your entrepreneur dreams come true. And winning a contest like this could be just the help you need to launch the next Under Armour success story. Don't listen to the naysayers out there. Follow your instincts. I just launched my second computer related company in June 2011. We just opened our second Computer Clinic location in Cockeysville on York Road...and in this economy! Contact me and I will help put you in touch with some people who can help you launch your idea.

As I am sure everyone realizes, texting while driving is an extreamly dangerous action. I have a solution. However, I have not patented it nor do I have the money to get my idea to market. I am positive that this problem can be cured by my idea. If you can help, please contact me at delfox001@aol.com Respectfully, Mike DeLise

Ed I applaud you pro-business activism, but I would caution your assumption of Maryland's stature in this arena. http://www.networksolutions.com/smallbusiness/wp-content/files/State_of_Small_Business_Report_Wave_5.pdf Maryland is fairing better than most states because of the federal government and our proximity to Washington. Maryland is not noted for being a business friendly state. There ranking is rather low at #42. Not a chart buster. I am always cautious when I see something being touted concerning O'Malley's involvement. I always search the facts for that hidden agenda. You know the one he has. Michael I would interested in what happens in your quest. It would be important for the readers of this site to know. http://taxfoundation.org/files/2012_tax_foundation_index_bp62.pdf
