Rosedale Sewer Leak Spills 951,500 Gallons

Crews fixed the sewer leak near Red House Run and Moores Run early Wednesday morning.

A sewer main break in Rosedale during the storms earlier this week caused nearly a million gallons of sewage to leak, Baltimore County public works officials said Thursday.

County utility crews discovered the leak late Wednesday afternoon after finding overflow from a 36-inch main near where the Red House Run and Moores Run streams meet. The leak had released 951,500 gallons of sewage.

According to a statement from the department of public works, a joint in the pipe had separated during the rains caused by the remnants of Hurricane Sandy. County crews and a private contractor replaced the joint and stopped the overflow early Thursday morning.

The county will monitor water quality in the area, the statement said, and will publish testing data on the county's website.
