Three Carney Community, Education Advocates Named Among 5th District's Top Citizens

Meg O'Hare and John and Marilyn Ryan were honored for their leadership roles in the Carney Improvement Association and for their advocacy of public education in Baltimore County.

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks has honored three Carney residents among his Fifth District Citizens of the Year.

Meg O'Hare and John and Marilyn Ryan received the honor based upon their leadership in the Carney Improvement Association as well as their advocacy of public education in Baltimore County, according to a statement from Marks.

O'Hare has served as president of the improvement association for 11 years, and also served on the county's Board of Education. The Ryans hold leadership positions in the association as well as the Baltimore County PTA Council, according to Marks.

"I am honored to recognize these three individuals who have not only worked hard over many years to make Carney such a desirable community, but also to  educate children throughout Baltimore County," Marks said in the statement.

Marks established the Citizens of the Year recognition program in 2011. This year's recipients live in the Towson, Loch Raven/Parkville/Carney and Perry Hall/Kingsville communities.

The recipients are men and women of "impeccable character who have contributed to the advancement of the community or civic life," Marks said in the statement.

Marks said in an email to Parkville Patch that he created the program to recognize "the exceptional residents who contribute to our communities, often without fanfare.

"They have helped make our Fifth District neighborhoods safe and inviting, from Towson to Harford County," he said.
