Area Schools Perform Better in State Tests
Parkville area schools are performing well, and several have recorded gains in reading and math.
School might be out for the summer, but the 2011 results of the Maryland State Assesment reading and math standardized tests are in for grades three through eight and area schools are performing quite well.
The scores were released by the Maryland State Department of Education on Wednesday afternoon.
Overall, all of the Parkville area's elementary and middle schools recorded gains in both reading and math, some of which were fairly substantial when compared to last year.

This year's scores are generally an improvement over the scores released at the end of the 2010 school year, reflecting a general uptick across Baltimore County Public Schools.
Countywide, improvements were seen across grade levels in reading. Only the sixth grade achievement score dropped slightly, from 84.4 percent of all students performing at an advanced or proficient level in 2010 to 82.3 percent in 2011.

In mathematics, scores improved in all but the eighth grade, where a small drop was recorded from 2010, when 66.7 percent of eighth graders were performing at the advanced or proficient levels, to 65.3 percent in 2011.
