MPSSAA Brackets Unveiled, Playoffs Start Today for Some

The MPSSAA Regional Tournament brackets have been unveiled and the first round of the 2011 playoffs begins today for lacrosse and softball.

Also, note that in all sports, the one through four seeds were awarded based on win-loss record, while the five through 12 seeds are slotted at random.

Softball

The first round of the MPSSAA Regional Tournament for softball is slated to begin on May 12. 

• Parkville (No. 10) takes on North Harford (No. 7) at North Harford on May 12 during round 1 of the MPSSAA Class 3A Regional Tournament. If the Knights advance they will face No. 2 Franklin in the second round on May 16.

• Loch Raven High School (No. 2) has a first-round bye in the MPSSAA Class 1A Regional Tournament and will take on the winner of Sparrows Point (No. 7) versus Joppatowne (No. 10) in round 2 on May 16.
  
  The Raiders' potential third-round opponent will be determined in a contest between Havre de Grace (No. 3) and either Western Tech (No. 6) or Harford Tech (No. 11), depending on the outcome of the round one contest.

Boys Lacrosse

The first round of the MPSSAA Regional Tournament for boys lacrosse is slated to begin May 12.

• Overlea (No. 2) has a first-round bye in the MPSSAA Class 3A-2A Regional Tournament and will play the winner of the match between Fallston (No. 7) and North Harford (No. 10) in round 2. 
  
  The Falcons' potential round 3 opponent will be determined in a contest between Bel Air (No. 3) and either Towson (No. 6) or Patapsco (No. 11).

• Parkville (No. 6) will play Kenwood (No. 11) in round 1 of the MPSSAA Class 4A-3A Regional Tournament. If they move on, they will play No. 3 Franklin in Round 2.

• Loch Raven (No. 2) has a round 1 bye in the MPSSAA Class 2A-1A Regional Tournament.
  
  The Raiders will take on Randallstown (No. 7) in round 2—if that game goes in their favor, they will play the winner of Chesapeake (No. 3) and Western Tech (No. 6) during round 3.

Girls Lacrosse

The first round of the MPSSAA Regional Tournament for girls lacrosse is slated to begin May 12.

• Parkville (No. 9) takes on Western Tech (No. 8) at home in round one of the MPSSAA Class 4A-3A State Championship tournament. If they advance, they will play Dulaney (No. 1) in the second round.

• Loch Raven (No. 3) has a round-1 bye in the MPSSAA Class 2A-1A Regional Tournament. They are set to play Pikesville (No. 6) in round 2 and, if they advance, their third-round opponents will be the team that wins the contest between Owings Mills (No. 7) and Carver (No. 2).

Baseball

The first round of the MPSSAA Regional Tournament for baseball is slated to begin May 13.

• Parkville (No. 4) has a first-round bye in the MPSSAA Class 3A Regional Tournament.
  
  The Knights will play the winner of Hereford (No. 5) versus Franklin (No. 12) in round 2 and, should they move on, they play the winner of C. Milton Wright (No. 1) versus either Towson (No. 8) or Milford Mill (No. 9) depending on the outcome of the round 1 game. 

• Overlea (No. 7) plays City (No. 10) in round 1 of the MPSSAA Class 2A Regional Tournament. A win will match them up against Dundalk (No. 2) at home during the second round.
• Loch Raven (No. 12) plays New Town (No. 5) in round one of the MPSSAA Class 1A Regional Tournament. If they advance they will play the Western Tech (No. 4) in the second round.
