Overlea Resident Wins Prestigious College Scholarship

Mayumy Rivera-Gonzalez received the Tommy Yeager Scholarship to help continue her education at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Overlea resident Mayumy Rivera-Gonzalez has been awarded the Tommy Yeager Scholarship to help her continue her studies at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

The scholarship fund was established in 2003 by Martha Myers Yeager, Class of 1941, in memory of her husband. The scholarship benefits Baltimore-area students who have academic merit, according to a statement from the college.

Rivera-Gonzalez is a sophomore studying Asian studies, Chinese language and dance. She also holds a work-study job in the school's Office of International Education.

Outside of the classroom, Rivera-Gonzalez is a member of the Raices Hispanas, International and Softball clubs. She is interested in Asian culture, language, history and sports, according to the statement. She also enjoys working out, reading Spanish literature and dancing.
