Parkville Eliminated, Overlea Advances In Boys Hoops

First round play started Tuesday in the boys MPSSAA basketball championship tournament.

After one round of play, two local schools remain in competition for their respective region championships.

The Overlea Falcons defeated their first round opponent, Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy (No. 6), in a Class 1A upset Tuesday evening. A score for the game was not immediately available.

Overlea (No. 11) heads to Pikesville (No. 3) on Thursday; tip-off is at 6 p.m.

An Overlea win over Pikesville, which earned a first-round bye, would see the Falcons take on the winner of a match-up between Bohemia Manor (No. 7) and Perryville (No. 2) early next week.

In Class 2A competition, Loch Raven (No. 1) didn't play Tuesday night as their high seed earned them a first-round bye. The Raiders take on Owings Mills (No. 8) in a home game at 6 p.m. Thursday.

A win for Loch Raven over Owings Mills will see them host either Carver (No. 4) or Edmondson/Westside (No. 5) early next week, depending on the outcome of their showdown.

The Parkville Knights (No. 12) were eliminated in the first round of Class 3A play, when they fell to fifth-ranked Patterson in a 70-34 blowout.

Play continues in the MPSSAA girls basketball championship tournament tonight, when Loch Raven travels to Randallstown.
