At Parkville, Twentey, a Bel Air resident, serves as the school's Career and Technology Education chair, in addition to his work as an instructor for introductory photography and advanced placement digital media classes. He also collaborates with the Community College of Baltimore County to enable students to procure college credit for high school art classes and creates tailored course tutorials for students to learn at their own pace.

In his spare time, he serves as a technology liason, alongside another teacher, for the school.

"In today’s world, teachers must draw clear correlations between work in the classroom and work in the real world," said Dallas Dance, superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools, in a news release. "Ryan shapes his instruction to provide students with the skills necessary to be college and career ready. He’s more than deserving of this impressive award."

ASCD is an international organization that provides initiatives to assist educators in promoting student success. As winner of the outstanding young educator award, Twentey receives a $10,000 cash award, membership in ASCD and networking and professional development opportunities.

Tacoma (WA) Public Schools Deputy Superintendent Joshua Garcia was the other recepient of the award.
