PHOTOS: Family Science Night At Carney Elementary

Students and their families did scientific experiments, learned about chemical reactions and even dug for real fossils at the event last week.

Students at Carney Elementary School are serious about science.

Last week 150 kids and their families joined staff from the Maryland Science Center for the school's first-ever Family Science Night, according to an email from school principal Stacey Durkovic.

"Students learned about chemical reactions by making Alka-Seltzer 'rockets,' experienced the work of a paleontologist by searching for real fossils, and used the scientific method to identify 'mystery powders," Durkovic wrote.
