Pine Grove Middle Students Decorate Windows, Release Terrapin

Students at the Carney-area middle school have been busy providing window coverings for a Towson shopping center and releasing a terrapin turtle they raised.

Students Release Terrapin In Natural Habitat

Sheldon, a terrapin turtle and one-time Carney resident, has been released into his natural habitat in the Chesapeake Bay.

The turtle was raised by students in Pine Grove Middle School's Environmental Science Club and last week, Pine Grove teacher Michael Lashley accompanied students Shane Vong, Connor Ourand, Garrett Rodas, Rachel Henry and Julie Tran to release him into the wild.

Poplar Island, technically a part of Talbot County but located in the Chesapeake Bay, is a natural habitat for diamondback terrapin turtles that's been restored over the past decade.

Beautifying Towson's Shopping District

A group of Pine Grove Middle School students is responsible for a series of window displays at a former Towson restaurant.

Student artists designed 16 window coverings currently on display at the former location Paolo's restaurant at Towson Commons which now sits vacant. Check out photos of the window displays attached to this article.

"The Towson Chamber of Commerce invites BCPS art students to submit window "murals" to cover the windows of vacant buildings in order to showcase  talent and to beautify the shopping and business district of Towson," wrote Pine Grove Middle School teacher Dorienne Plait, in an email.
