Parkville High Principal Leaves After Three Years, Search Under Way

Former Parkville High School principal Charlene Dimino is headed to Towson High School. Who will take her place at Parkville?

The search is under way to name a replacement for former Parkville High School principal Charlene Dimino.

A new principal is expected to be announced by the Baltimore County Board of Education meeting on Aug. 6 at the latest, according to Maria Lowry, Baltimore County Public Schools assistant superintendent for high schools. The school year begins Aug. 26.

Dimino, who transferred to Parkville High School from Eastern Technical High School, applied for a principal position at Towson High School, Lowry said.

"She was interested in a change of assignment for leadership experience and a growth opportunity," Lowry said. "She saw this as an opportunity to take Towson to a new level and provide her with experience she hasn't had before."

The school system held meetings Monday evening to discuss the desired characteristics of Parkville's new principal with faculty, staff and other stakeholders, Lowry said.

"We had the community meetings last night, essentially at this point we're working on taking the characteristics and using that information to formulate questions we'll ask of candidates," she said.

Some of those characteristics?

"[A new principal should be] collaborative, a strong communicator. Able to meet the needs of all the students on various levels. Parkville is a very diverse school," Lowry said. "Those are some things that we have to keep in mind when we're interviewing each of those candidates."

Lowry said that she will be part of a panel of faculty, students, and teachers that begin the interview process on Friday.

Feedback will be passed to schools superintendent S. Dallas Dance who will make a final decision and pass the approved candidate to the board of education for approval.

The decision could come ahead of the Aug. 6 meeting if the candidate chosen is a sitting principal from another Baltimore County High School, Lowry said.
