Football: Overlea To Play Northwestern in Region Final

Owings Mills Patch reported Monday night that New Town was told by the state athletics association that it had to forfeit all of its wins for carrying an ineligible player on its roster.

Overlea won't get a pass straight to the state semifinals in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association football tournament but their opponent for the upcoming Class 2A North region finals will change before Friday's game.

After defeating Reginald F. Lewis, 52-16, last Friday, Overlea was set to take on New Town this Friday at CCBC Essex.

But it appears that New Town may not be able to play after Owings Mills Patch reported Monday night that the MPSSAA informed school officials Monday afternoon that the Titans would have to vacate all 10 wins from this season, including a playoff victory against Northwestern, because it caried an ineligible player all season.

Overlea will play Northwestern this Friday, Sparks said.

, New Town's principal is scheduled to meet with parents at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the situation.

It now looks certain that the Falcons will be taking on No. 3 Northwestern in the region finals.
