Baltimore County Public Schools plans to host an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday July 26 at White Oak School to discuss Title I transfer options for the upcoming school year.

Under normal circumstances students from participating schools can move to certain schools within their district. However, White Oak School serves special needs students from around the county, so transfers can be made to a variety of schools in both eastern and western Baltimore County.

Participating students at White Oak School may transfer to either Bear Creek elementary in Dundalk, Chatsworth School in Reisterstown or Winand elementary in Pikesville.

According to a news release, participating schools are identified based on student achievement data established by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with differentiated accountability guidelines. The transfer option is required as part of the 2001 federal No Child Left Behind Act.

During the informational meeting, parents will learn about the transfer option process, schools their children can transfer to, and student performance data at their child’s home school, as well as other information helpful to parents as they decide whether to participate in the transfer program.

According to a news release, the No Child Left Behind Act also requires that local school systems participating in the program offer transportation to all eligible students whose families choose to participate in the program. Federal funding allocated to the school system is reserved for this purpose.

The deadline for all transfer applications is Aug. 12.
