:

  • Valerie was selected to meet Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown at the State of Maryland Youth Inaugural.  She is an AVID student who has worked hard, taking two math classes each year, to be successful in school and be civically active as well.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Valerie has overcome many obstacles in her young life and has learned the value of perseverance and persistence. She was rendered partially deaf as a young girl, and had to undergo two surgeries in order to hear again, re-learning speech in the process.  She has always had a come-from-behind mentality, and has had to work harder than her peers to succeed academically.  Nonetheless she is an age-aproppriate 11th grade student serving her school well on the student council and doing well in the AVID program.
