A superb defensive season was rewarded by six Orioles being named finalists for the award that recognizes outstanding fielding.

A stellar defensive year by the Baltimore Orioles was recognized Tuesday night when the winners of Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were announced.

The Birds had six finalists going into Tuesday's announcement and three received the coveted awards for Major league Baseball's best defensive players.

Center fielder Adam Jones, shortstop J.J. Hardy and third baseman Manny Machado beat out the other two finalists at their respective positions in the American League.

Jones and Hardy each won their second consecutive award, while Machado won the honor in his first full season in the major leagues.

First baseman Chris Davis, who also had quite an offensive year, leading Major League baseball in home runs (53) and runs batted in (138), fell short in his bid to snag his first Gold Glove.

Catcher Matt Wieters, who the award the past two years, and right fielder Nick Markakis were also finalists.
