Maryland may be the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner, but there will be no residents of the Free State representing America in the upcoming Winter Olympic games.

Maryland failed to qualify any athletes for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, according to the list of 230 athletes released Monday. However, the list does include Summer Britcher, a luger who was born in Baltimore. Britcher has several family members, including her father, who are Baltimore firefighters.

The U.S. Olympic Team will have 105 women and 125 men, comprising the largest team ever in the history of the winter games, according to the USOC. Athletes will come from 32 states.

Maryland residents gave it their best shot during trials. April Shin of Rockville competed in the trials for the U.S. Short Track Speedskating team.  Gambrills native Ian Lorello competed at the National Championships in Ice Dancing.

Maryland, of course, can still boast of being home to swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time.

The Opening Ceremonies for the Sochi 2014 Games will take place Feb. 7.
