Overlea's Falcons Repeat Playoff Run

The high school's football team is seeded fourth going into the first week of postseason play.

The Overlea High School Falcons have done it again.

After a run that sent them to the Class 1A state semifinals last season, Coach Craig Rollins has once again put his team into the playoffs.

The No. 3 Falcons travel to Woodlawn High School to take on No. 2 New Town at 7 p.m. Friday in a regional semifinal game.

If Overlea, with a regular season record of 8-2, beats New Town (also 8-2) it would earn the Falcons a spot in the regional finals where they would take on the winner of the No. 1 Reginald F. Lewis versus No. 4 Manchester Valley game, which is scheduled for Nov. 10.

In the 2011 season, the Falcons earned the school's first regional championship title since 1993 with a 39-10 rout of Northwestern before falling to then-defending 1A champions Dunbar in the State semi-final game at CCBC Essex.

That loss ended a 16-0 win streak that began late in the Falcons' .500 2010 season.

The road to M&T Bank Stadium, where the state championship is played, begins Friday—a successful Falcons squad would be the first to compete for the state title since 1988.
