Buy Sweet Treats to Honor Fallen Teen

13-year-old Michael Truluck was killed when he fell from a vehicle on Harford Road and was run over.

The news of — the 13-year-old student was killed when he fell from a moving vehicle onto Harford Road and was struck by a car back on February 18.

Now, the boy's friends and family are organizing a fundraiser to help pay for a headstone to honor the boy's life.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, members of the community who knew Michael will gather at the office of Dr. Niru Parekh, 8114 Harford Road, to sell baked goods and snowballs, and offer car washes to make sure the boy's memory is honored.

"His family cant afford a headstone for him so we are doing what we can to help them. Michael was my little brother['s] best friend," said event organizer Allyson Watt in an email to Patch.

The boy's death sparked a nationwide debate because he had been drinking alcohol at the time of his death. that Truluck's tragic fall occurred when he opened the door of a vehicle driven by his stepfather in order to vomit.

Truluck's mother told news outlets that her son had been drinking the alcoholic FourLoko which made him "sick to his stomach."

On the Facebook page for the event, Truluck's sister Samantha Keys wrote: "I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your love and support. Mike was my brother and I know he is smiling down from all the love. It is greatly appreciated :) I hope I can make it to meet all of you!"

So far 108 people have responded to the Facebook event posting to say they would be attending. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been set for May 12.
