Group Seeks Volunteers for Carney Tree Plantings

The Jennifer Branch Project of the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy has 3 plantings scheduled on May 28.

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy's Jennifer Branch Project is looking for volunteers to help plant trees and restore the stream buffer alongside the Carney waterway that gives the group their name.

On May 28, the Jennifer Branch Project will be 39 planting trees on land owned by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks on Golden Rod Lane and Red Clover Court and in a separate project planting another 39 trees along North Trail Way.

According to the conservationist group, the newly planted trees will help prevent run-off that carries pollutants into Jennifer Branch, the Gunpowder River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.

The Jennifer Branch Project recently completed a planting near Deltom Court in Carney that initially caused problems with area residents. The issue, stemming from a loss of open space for children to play in, was resolved quickly .

Both planting events will be held the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, rain or shine, and volunteers should arrive by 9:15 a.m. to sign in.  The group plans to provide refreshments for volunteers.
