Oak Crest Residents Stuff Stockings for Salvation Army

A group of senior citizens at the retirement community on Walther Boulevard filled stockings for the Salvation Army Tuesday morning.

A group of seniors at Oak Crest Village stuffed 400 stockings this morning in a record 45-minute marathon.

The Oak Crest community has been teaming up with the Salvation Army for the last 17 years to make sure that children from needy families are able to get toys and other goodies on Christmas morning.

"It normally takes about 90 minutes, so this is definitely breaking a record," said Jeffrey Getek, a spokesman for Oak Crest Village.

The project fills some of the local need as two thousand families have registered with the Baltimore Salvation Army this holiday season, according to Oak Crest resident Ann France.

The 50 participants in the program raised $3,500 to put toward toys and other stocking stuffers.
