Overlea's Wild Mural Takes Shape

As recent as Wednesday, 11 volunteers started painting a mural on a concrete wall at the intersection of Willow Avenue and Belair Road.

The above photos, posted to the Overlea Community Facebook page by user Billy BabaCharles, show the amazing progress they've made over the last two days.

Already, Baltimore muralist Whitney Frazier and the group of community volunteers have painted the shapes of four butterflies. The mural, which will bear the slogan "Wild About Overlea" is expected to be officially unveilled September 15.

Doris Poling, vice president of the Overlea Community Association, told Patch on Wednesday that the mural, located between Kaye's Pharmacy and St. Michael the Archangel Church, is the first of three planned murals. Poling has been pushing to beautify the area through art since 2011, she said.
