Volleyball Player, 95, to Be Honored by Kamenetz, Parkville Senior Center

No one can accuse Harold "Whitey" Freeburger of sitting around, letting the moss grow.

The 95-year-old active Parkville Senior Center member will be honored Thursday by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and his senior center peers for creating the center's many volleyball leagues more than 20 years ago, according to a statement from the county's Office of Communications.

Freeburger, 95, is described as a "volleyball player and enthusiast" who has remained active in the leagues since creating them.

Center members credit Freeburger with bringing many volleyball programs to Maryland after being stationed in the military in California. The sports enthusiast has been an active supporter of volleyball and soccer throughout his life, according to the statement.

Senior center members plan to give Freeburger a plaque "commemorating his substantial positive impact on the center and its members," according to the statement.

The ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the senior center, 8601 Harford Road.

In addition to Freeburger and Kamenetz, invited guests include Parkville Senior Center director James Sloane, members of the Baltimore County Council and statehouse delegation and senior center members and staff.
