Oakleigh Elementary Rallies For Breast Cancer Awareness

Students, teachers and parents at the Parkville school will donate hair to cancer charity Locks of Love Friday afternoon.

The Oakleigh Elementary School community is rallying in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. On Friday afternoon, teachers, students and parents at the Parkville school will line up to have their hair cut for the charity Locks of Love. The event is being organized by third-grade teacher Corri Brown, who is among the four teachers that will have 10 inches or more of their hair cut off by stylists from Fine Line Hair Design in Cockeysville. Locks of Love, a charity that donates wigs to children suffering from medical hair loss, requires donors to give at least 10 inches of hair. Brown, who has given hair to the charity before, said that she brought the event to Oakleigh Elementary to teach students that there are many ways to give to …

Mercy High 'Pretty In Pink' For Breast Cancer Awareness

Students at Mercy High School lined the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and Northern Parkway on Tuesday as part of a schoolwide breast cancer awareness event.

A few hundred high school students lined Northern Parkway and Loch Raven Boulevard Tuesday afternoon to raise awareness for breast cancer. Girls at Mercy High School held signs and waved to passersby as part of 'Pretty In Pink' day at the school. Check out photos of the event in the gallery above. The students also raised close to $600 for the Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore City by paying a dollar each to be allowed to wear denim (instead of a school uniform) for the day and holding a bake sale. Are you a parent, student, teacher or administrator at a local school? Know about something great your kids or classmates are doing? Tell editor Nick Gestido (nick.gestido@patch.com) or announce it on Patch.

Local Gymgoers Look To Show 'Art and Strength' At Komen Walk

Students and instructors at Fullerton's Art & Strength are raising money for the Susan G. Komen Walk For The Cure in a unique way.

This weekend folks from all over the Baltimore area will converge in Hunt Valley to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research at the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. Students and instructors from one local gym are taking their commitment one step further: so far, eight regulars at Fullerton's Art & Strength have registered to carry a total of 647 pounds as they walk one mile with a kettlebell in each hand. The exercise, called a farmer's walk, is meant to mirror a farmer carrying buckets of water. Dan Cenidoza, the gym's owner and 2007 winner of the Maryland's Strongest Man competition, will try to carry a 106 pound kettlebell in each hand as he completes a 1-mile walk. Not sure what a kettlebell is? Check out the video …

People give Susan G. Komen money to fight breast cancer and Susan G. Komen gives some of that donated money to the babykillers at Planned Parenthood. I don't think people who give money to Susan G. Komen to fight breast cancer, know their money is going to an abortion organization that kills unborn babies.   more ›

PHOTOS: Residents Take Up Guns Against Breast Cancer

Trap and skeet shooters raise money for breast cancer cure and awareness.

Seasoned shooters and first-timers of all ages and walks of life showed up at the Loch Raven Skeet & Trap Center (LRSTC) in Phoenix to participate in Clays Against Cancer, the center’s second annual event organized to raise money in support of breast cancer cure and awareness. "It was crazy, but good … crazy good," said Jason Wennet, event organizer and member of the LRSTC board, of the turnout for the fundraiser. Last year's event, named Shoot for a Cure, made almost $10,000. At mid-day on Saturday they looked to be on target to have just as much participation in the event this year. As the weather turned from a brisk partially sunny morning to threatening rain, the sound of gunshots grew more rapid as participants hurried to get in their…
