Two area men were recognized for their volunteer service to Maryland's veterans Monday afternoon when they met with U.S. Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger. Robert Filippi and and Joseph C. Sirera each received the 2012 Congressional Volunteer Recognition Award in a ceremony at the congressman's Timonium office. Filippi, a veteran himself, has accrued 2,000 hours of service in 14 years as a volunteer with the VA Maryland Health Care System. He visits the Loch Raven VA Living Community weekly and maintains their greenhouse; and also volunteers with the Sons of the American Legion Post 130 and the Parkville American Legion Post 183 bingos, according to a statement from the Congressman's office. The Baltimore County congressman says, "Iranian government can not be trusted."
Iran is attempting to develop nuclear weapons, the United Kingdom's Daily Mail reported this morning. The British news outlet cited a report by nuclear watchdog group International Atomic Energy Agency, which published its findings Tuesday, according to United Press International. The news didn't sit well with Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, who in recent months has been critical of Iran's actions. “The report from the U.N watchdog agency is incredibly troubling and confirms what we already knew – that the Iranian government can not be trusted," he wrote in a statement.
