A march to commemorate the efforts of women to earn the right to vote nearly 100 years ago will take place in the Overlea neighborhood this weekend. In the winter of 1913, a group of suffragettes marched from New York City to Washington D.C. in the dead of winter to draw attention to the women's suffrage movement and on their path they stopped in Overlea, according to an article in the New York Times. On Saturday, a group will march three blocks on Belair Road to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the march. Anthony Joseph Geer, 29, was arrested and charged with 23 counts of animal cruelty on Thursday.
A Cambridge man was arrested Thursday nearly a month after being charged with and charged with animal cruelty involving at least 18 puppies at a Parkville animal shelter. Anthony Joseph Geer, 29, faces 23 counts of animal cruelty in connection with the incident. Police officers found the puppies and 5 dogs "in deplorable condition" at Baltimore Animal Rescue Network, in the 8600 block of Quentin Avenue, on Jan. 24, according to a news release from the office of Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger. Three of the puppies had to be euthanized immediately due to their condition. A booking photo of Geer was not made immediately available by the Dorchester County Sherriff's Department. The bookbags, hand-painted with designs from students' favorite children's books, were delivered to kindergarteners earlier this week.
A group of Pine Grove Middle School students made it their mission to share their love of reading with kindergarteners at Chatsworth School in Reisterstown. The students, seventh-graders who take art with teacher Jackie Morgan, designed and hand-painted backpacks inspired by their favorite children's books, according to a news release from the school. Each of the bags, delivered recently, also contained the book that inspired the design and bore a unique gift tag. "The students at Pine Grove Middle wanted to share their childhood books with the kindergarten students in order to get them excited about reading and foster a life-long appreciation of books," the release states. Police have identified the man killed in a crash that closed traffic on the Beltway's inner loop Thursday morning. Darreck Thomas Hodge, of Baltimore, was killed as he tried to change the tire of his vehicle, which was disabled on the right shoulder of I-695 near Belair Road around 5:16 a.m. Feb. 21, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police. A green 2013 International tractor trailer struck Hodge and his 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, the release states. Hodge was pronounced dead on the scene. Two other passengers inside the Ford were injured in the collision: a 17-year-old female was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, and a 1-year-old infant was ejected from the vehicle in the accident and transported to …

County Councilman David Marks introduced legislation Tuesday night that would improve the design standards for new construction in the Loch Raven Commercial District, and break up the district into three sub-areas. "Community leaders have talked about reducing some of the visual clutter along Joppa Road and Loch Raven Boulevard for years, and now is the time to do it," Marks said in a statement. "When new construction occurs in these areas, it will be subject to tighter standards so we can hopefully have much more attractive buildings. We will have to live with new construction for 40 or 50 years, so let's make it look better." A man was sentenced to 55 years in prison for the murder of a senior student that rocked the Parkville High School community in February 2011. Brandon Jackson, 18, was killed in the parking lot of a gas station on McClean Boulevard. Clinton Bradley, 26, was sentenced in the shooting death Wednesday morning by Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge Ruth A. Jakubowski, according to a press release from the office of Baltimore County States Attorney Scott Shellenberger. Bradley was arrested on Feb. 24, four days after the shooting, and charged with first-degree murder. Bradley shot Jackson in the head outside an Exxon gas station in the 3100 block of McClean Boulevard on Feb. 20. At the time of the murder, Bradley was out on parole after being …

A year ago, 13-year-old Michael Truluck was killed when he fell from a moving vehicle on Harford Road.
It's been a year since a Parkville teen was killed when he fell from a vehicle on Harford Road. Monday night, friends and family of 13-year-old Michael Truluck gathered near to corner of Harford and Parktowne Roads to remember the fallen Parkville Middle School student. Dawn Miller-Campbell, whose son Matthew was a close friend of Truluck's, organized the event through Facebook. "I had asked [one of Truluck's friends] to make me a sign. I wanted to put something up at the site because it had been a year yesterday," Miller-Campbell said. "We held a candlelight vigil, just spread from there. A Parkville man who pleaded guilty to transportation of a minor to engage in sex and conspiracy to produce child pornography has been sentenced to 27 years in prison. John Andrew Blaes, 49, of the 8600 block of Wendell Avenue was sentenced Tuesday afternoon by U.S. District Judge James K Bredar, according to a news release from the Office of the US Attorney for Maryland. Bredar also ordered that upon his release Blaes must register as a sex offender. Blaes and his then-girlfriend Margaret Ellen Jones both admitted in court that during July 2011 Blaes solicited a 15-year-old North Carolina girl to have sex with them, according to the news release.
