The Greater Parkville Community Council hosts a meeting Thursday night at the Parkville Senior Cener, 8601 Harford Road. The group will discuss neighborhood issues and hear from guest speakers Baltimore County Sheriff R. Jay Fisher and members of the Baltimore County Police Department K9 Unit, according to an email from group president Ruth Baisden. The K9 unit will give a demonstration with a police dog, Baisden wrote. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Mar. 14, according to the email. Ed Adams will speak to the Greater Parkville Community Council about plans to improve the intersection of Harford and Joppa roads at a Thursday night meeting.
If you live in Parkville or Carney, you're probably aware that the intersection of Harford and Joppa roads is one of the toughest spots to navigate during the commute. Fortunately, it looks like relief for commuters is on the way. On Thursday night Ed Adams, Baltimore County's Director of Public Works, will speak to the Greater Parkville Community Council about future improvements to the intersection, according to an email from group president Ruth Baisden. For Parkville residents concerned about crime in the neighborhood, a Thursday night meeting will provide an opportunity to chat with one of the men in charge. Capt. Gordon Skinner, commander of Parkville's Baltimore County Police Department precinct, will be speaking to the Greater Parkville Community Council about crime trends in the area and taking questions and concerns from those who attend. Ruth Baisden, president of the Greater Parkville Community Council, wants the Revenue Authority to formalize promises for money and parking at a meeting Thursday.
The leader of a Parkville community group wants the Baltimore County Revenue Authority to formalize concessions to help revitalize the Harford Road corridor as part if its sale of the public parking lot on Lavender Avenue. Ruth Baisden, president of the Greater Parkville Community Council, sent the letter to the Baltimore County Revenue Authority on Dec. 13. The quasi-public agency is scheduled to finalize a sale of the property Thursday morning. Last year the Baltimore County Revenue Authority voted to sell the 56-space public parking lot, located along Harford Road between Lavender and Taylor Avenues, to Towson-based DMS Development for a sum of $500,000. If you're looking for something to do this weekend, check out the Parkville Main Street Committee's Oktoberfest event at Racer's Saturday afternoon. The event, held at Racer's Cafe from 3-7 p.m., will benefit the Parkville Main Street Committee—a subgroup of the Greater Parkville Community Council that aims to revitalize the Harford Road business district. Developer waits for state, Revenue authority to settle on a price for part of the parking lot.
The development of the Lavender lot in Parkville could hinge on the sale of a former bus stop located on the same property. Donald Hutchinson, chairman of the five-member Baltimore County Revenue Authority board, said a disagreement over price between the state Department of Transportation and the authority could nix the deal. "There is a big curveball," said Hutchinson. Under a 1958 agreement with what was then the city transit authority, the authority believed it could buy back the property used as a bus stop for $14,000. The authority sent the state a check but it was never cashed. "Now we're told by the lawyers that (the state) wants to sell it for market value—in excess of $100,000," said Hutchinson.
