A family of Ravens fans created this Ravens-themed cover of "Call Me Maybe" in time for your purple Friday.
Just in time for the most important Purple Friday of the year (so far), this enthusiastic group of Ravens fans uploaded this video to YouTube. It's a cover of the summer smash-hit "Call Me Maybe" with a decidedly pro-Ravens spin ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship rematch against the New England Patriots. The creator, who's YouTube account is RobinsMatt, posted the following comments with the song: "It's AFC Championship week and we thought we'd show our support with a song! The lyrics are mine but the song parodied is "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen and she owns all rights to it and whatnot. The governor touts $325 million in cuts even as proposed spending increases by 4 percent over the current levels.
UPDATED (6:32 p.m.)—Gov. Martin O'Malley Wednesday presented his budget plan for the coming year that he called "a jobs budget." The budget contains no tax increases though O'Malley declined to discuss the possibility of a tax for transportation projects. "These have been challenging times to say the least," O'Malley said. He was referencing the seventh budget of his tenure as governor at the same time that the state has weathered one of the most severe economic downturns in history. O'Malley said Maryland taxpayers "expect their government to do more with less." The proposed $37.3 billion spending plan is for the 2014 fiscal year, which begins July 1. The Maryland Public Service Commission ruled Monday that customers will have additional options, which may include opting out of smart meters.
Maryland utilities customers will have more options when it comes to smart meter installation at their homes and businesses. The Maryland Public Service Commission ruled Monday that public interest requires that Baltimore Gas & Electric, Potomac Electric Power Company and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative provide customers with an additional option related to smart meters, according to a ruling on the commission's website. Customers have complained about the health consequences that they believe will occur as a result of radio frequency emissions from the smart meters. The commission found no "convincing evidence" to support that claim, but acknowledged a "good-faith belief" to the contrary from customers. As such, the commission …

The longtime Baltimore Raven is expected to join the network’s Monday Night Countdown program.
Ray Lewis won’t be out of work for long once this football season ends. According to a report from SI.com, Lewis is expected to sign a multi-year contract with sports network ESPN and will have “a significant role” on the station’s Monday Night Countdown program. Lewis, who was drafted by the Ravens in their first draft after the franchise relocated from Cleveland, announced his impending retirement Wednesday following this year’s playoffs. Lewis, a middle linebacker, has been the heart and soul of the franchise for 17 seasons, and helped lead the team to its only Super Bowl title in 2000. The Ravens will take on the Indianapolis Colts, the franchise that broke the city’s heart when it moved in 1984, at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis will retire at the end of the team's run in the current postseason. Lewis made the announcement while speaking to the media early Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens' Twitter feed said he told the team, "This will be my last ride." Lewis, the MVP of the Ravens' last Super Bowl in 2001, will have spent his entire 17-season career with Baltimore. Lewis, a first-round pick for the Ravens in 1996 (their first season in Baltimore) has been selected for 13 Pro Bowls and has three times been named the AFC defensive player of the year, in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Same-sex marriage, a first-in-the-nation arsenic ban for chicken feed and a law designed to protect children's credit reports are among the Maryland laws taking effect on Jan. 1. Some, including the marriage law and a Baltimore City charter amendment, were passed by voters in November. Others tweak existing rules, like renewable energy credits and car insurance.
