Perry Hall Shooting Hero Wasmer To Throw Out Orioles' First Pitch Sunday

Perry Hall guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer will be joined by Daniel Borowy.

The guidance counselor credited with heroically intervening during the August shooting at Perry Hall High School will throw out the first pitch Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Jesse Wasmer will throw out the first pitch before the first postseason game in Baltimore in 15 years. Wasmer will be accompanied by Perry Hall student Daniel Borowy, who was shot during the Aug. 27 incident, the Orioles announced Sunday morning. Read more Patch coverage of the shooting here. UPDATE: Bail Hearing Scheduled for Accused Perry Hall High Shooter

Robert W. Gladden Jr. is scheduled to appear in Baltimore County Circuit Court Thursday.

UPDATE (10:53 a.m., Sept. 13)—Gladden Bail Denied Pending Mental Health Evaluation --- UPDATE (11:58 a.m., Sept. 12)—The 15-year-old accused of shooting another student in Perry Hall High School's cafeteria on the first day of school is expected to appear in Baltimore County Circuit Court on Thursday. Judge John Grason Turnbull, II is scheduled to review a bail hearing for Robert W. Gladden Jr. at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 in Courtroom 15, Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger announced. Gladden, a Kingsville resident, is charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder, and first degree assault and reckless endangerment against six students and three Perry Hall High School faculty members. Number9 - exactly it's a no win. So let's not endanger other students just because this kid is a lost cause - for whatever reason. Expelling students is not about them - it's about all of the other students who have a right to learn in a safe and orderly environment and teachers who have a right to teach in a school and workplace that is safe and free from disruptions.   more ›

Facebook Page: 'Send Mr. Wasmer To Ellen Show'

A Facebook page dedicated to sending Perry Hall High School guidance counselor, Jesse Wasmer, to the Ellen Show had more than 900 fans Friday.

Just hours after Monday's shooting at Perry Hall High School, students identified guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer as a hero who stopped potential for further violence in its tracks. Now, members of the community want his heroism featured on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." The Facebook page "Send Mr. Wasmer To Ellen Show" was started Tuesday and had 923 "likes" as of 4 p.m. Friday. Police and witnesses say Jesse Wasmer rushed toward the alleged shooter in the cafeteria, but before Wasmer could subdue him, the armed student allegedly fired one round, striking 17-year-old Daniel Borowy. 'Heroic' Perry Hall Guidance Counselor Praised by Students, Social Media for Stopping Shooter

Students say it was Jesse Wasmer, a guidance counselor at Perry Hall High School, who intervened during a shooting in the school's cafeteria.

Students and social media are reporting that Jesse Wasmer, a Perry Hall High School guidance counselor, intervened after a 15-year-old student reportedly shot another student in the school's cafeteria Monday morning. "I turned around and the kid's got a gun, and Mr. Wasmer, one of the counselors, pushes him up against a vending machine and then he shot one more off," Ryan Brady, a student who witnessed the shooting, told Patch. Wasmer declined to comment when contacted by Patch. A Facebook page has been created to thank Wasmer. At 4:30 p.m. Monday it had nearly 950 fans.
