After Thursday night's games, no local schools remain in the regional basketball tournaments.
The basketball postseason has drawn to a close for area schools after both Loch Raven and Overlea high schools lost region quarterfinal matchups Thursday night. The Loch Raven Raiders, who earned a number one seed and a first round bye heading into the postseason, lost a home game to Owings Mills (No. 8) Thursday night, eliminating them from competition. The final score of the game was 66-58, according to the MPSSAA website. Across town the Overlea Falcons (No. 11), fresh off a win over Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy, played at Pikesville (No. 5) where they suffered an 81-69 defeat, according to the MPSSAA website. First round play started Tuesday in the boys MPSSAA basketball championship tournament.
After one round of play, two local schools remain in competition for their respective region championships. The Overlea Falcons defeated their first round opponent, Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy (No. 6), in a Class 1A upset Tuesday evening. A score for the game was not immediately available. Overlea (No. 11) heads to Pikesville (No. 3) on Thursday; tip-off is at 6 p.m. An Overlea win over Pikesville, which earned a first-round bye, would see the Falcons take on the winner of a match-up between Bohemia Manor (No. 7) and Perryville (No. 2) early next week. Of the three local high schools, one had a first-round bye, one advanced with a first-round win and one was knocked out of the region tournament.
Parkville has lived to fight another day in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association girls basketball tournament. Their local counterparts in Overlea weren't so lucky, upset by 10th-seeded Pikesville, 45-38, according to the MPSSAA website. The No. 12 Parkville Knights, however, were on the giving end of an upset—dominating No. 5 Towson, 43-29. Parkville plays at No. 4 Digital Harbor this afternoon at 4 p.m., according to the MPSSAA website. A victory over the Baltimore City school will see the Knights take on the winner of a contest between No. 1 Aberdeen and No. 9 Franklin on Feb. 27. Loch Raven's girls and Overlea's boys have advanced in the MPSSAA tournament.
Three local teams are still alive in the MPSSAA state basketball tournament — Loch Raven's girls and Overlea's boys advanced to the third round. In Division 1A ball, the Overlea Falcons will take on play first-ranked Western School of Technology and Environmental Science tonight at 7 p.m. after a 76-51 victory over Havre de Grace's Warriors on Tuesday. In Division 2A ball, the eighth-ranked Loch Raven's Lady Raiders pulled off an upset win, defeating number one Randallstown 48-42 in overtime on Tuesday night. They played Douglass last night, but the results from that game have not yet been made available.

A few local teams have been eliminated from contention in the state tournament.
Things are heating up in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association boys and girls basketball playoff tournaments and at least three local teams are still in contention. Games in the playoff tournament started last Thursday—now that the dust has settled here's a quick run down of which teams remain and what happened to those who have been eliminated: Girls: Boys: Good luck to all the teams still left in competition. Three local high schools are ready to open MPSSAA postseason basketball action.
The basketball postseason is about to begin for the boys and girls teams from Parkville, Overlea and Loch Raven high schools. The schools won't, however, play one another—each is in a different Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association classification, based upon school population.
